The Cirencester Swimming and Water Polo Club was founded in 1931. At that time, swimmers used to meet at the Cirencester Outdoor Swimming Pool and train between the months April to October. Many of the Club trophies that are competed for each year in the Club Championships date back to this time.
The Club also had a water polo team, which unfortunately was disbanded in the 1970’s. The Club then moved to the Cotswold Leisure Centre when it opened in the early 1970s and training then became year round. The Club has moved again with the closing of the “old” Leisure Centre and the opening of the “new” Leisure Centre next door.
The Club’s main aims are to teach swimming from the ages of 4/5 years upwards and to encourage competitive swimming from the age of 9 to adult. As the Club is a competitive club, all swimmers are encouraged to compete in the Club championships that are split into the short distance events held in May, and the long distance events held in November. In these championships, the swimmers compete for medals and trophies, which are presented at a presentation evening after
The Club currently competes in the Cotswold Series, the Arena League Western Division in Division 3, and in friendly galas. Swimmers that achieve qualifying times for the County, Regional , or National Championships are also encouraged to compete in those competitions.
