Learn to Swim
Cirencester Swimming Club Learn to Swim Programme
The learn to swim programme at Cirencester swimming club is aimed at children who are over 5 years old, who have already attended swimming lessons elsewhere and have passed ASA Level 4.
The learn to swim programme is organised into 4 groups: Otters 1, 2, 3 and 4. Children work their way through the ASA national learn to swim programme.
Otters 1 is for children who have already had swimming lessons elsewhere, are water confident, have passed ASA level 4 and are ready to learn the first 3 strokes to a legal standard. This session lasts 30 minutes.
Otters 2 is for children who have 3 legal strokes and can swim between 10 and 50m of each. This group will allow children to develop the strokes further, swim longer distances and introduce deep water skills. This session lasts 30 minutes.
Otters 3 is for children to build stamina and be introduced to more advanced drills. The children in this group will be introduced to the fourth stroke, diving and turns. Children in this group will swim between 200 and 800m each week. This session lasts 30 minutes.
Otters 4 is for children to develop stamina further as this is a 45 minute session. Children in this group will be working on all of the skills needed to finish the national learn to swim programme at level 7. Once a child has completed level 7 (or level 6 if the child is unable to complete 25m legal butterfly) then their time in the learn to swim programme will end. By invitation, some children who have 4 legal strokes, a competitive nature and a willingness to train on additional nights will be asked to trial for the competitive side of Cirencester Swimming Club. There is no automatic promotion to the competitive side of the club from the learn to swim programme.
